龚山陵教授是国际上著名的大气化学和大气气溶胶数值模式专家，他领导研发的加拿大气溶胶模块（Canadian Aerosol Module）应用在加拿大环境部的空气质量预报模式和全球气候变化研究中。作为首席科学指导，他组织撰写了“加拿大/美国PM_2.5 的现状评估及跨国输送”，积累了大量PM_2.5评估与治理等方面的经验。发表SCI 论文221 篇，总引用达12711 次，在全球顶尖科学家排名中名列国内大气科学前十。他的有关研究成果已被写入IPCC第3次和第4次评估报告，并获加拿大政府颁发的诺贝尔奖IPCC 贡献奖。

龚山陵教授作为中国气象科学研究院的特聘专家曾经主导团队建立了中国气象局的沙尘暴数值预报业务系统（CUACE/Dust），雾-霾数值预报系统（CUACE/Haze-Fog），生物质燃烧数值预报系统以及环境气象指数系统（CUACE/EMI）并实现业务应用，并在国际知名科学刊物“Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics”上主编了有关沙尘暴和雾-霾研究的两个专辑。他获得了中国气象局气象科学和技术工作研究开发一等奖，排名第二。主持完成了1项国家重点基金项目和2项国家973课题的研究工作，其中关于区域污染形成机制的研究连同项目的大气气溶胶、气溶胶气候效应被同行专家推荐为973计划重大成果。
